The line pressure solenoid defaults to max pressure if not connected. It will provide full manual control over all shifts, and deliver them without delay or time costly overlap. The valve body of the transmission, or control valve, is the central nerve system that tells the transmission what to do, at what time. Hughes Performance offers both standard shift and reverse pattern manual valve bodies. Other builders are afraid to cut into their sales and tell you this.
It comes with a speed sensor for an electronic speedometer and can be equipped with a speedometer control unit to control a speedometer cable 68 below. This is the same valve bodies we use in our rebuilds transmissions that we sell. The Hughes transbrake valve body kits are complete and ready to install in your competition transmission. Description This will convert your stock valve body to a Full Manual Shift, Normal Pattern. If this makes sense to you, take a look at our 4L80E options below. The Blue connector is referred to as C1 and the Red connector is referred to as C2.
The transmission will have engine braking in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. The harness just plugs right in. The 1997 up 4L80E transmission can be used on the new Chevy 572 cubic inch motor, because both have 7 bell housing bolts. Now on how to wire it in. Full manual valve bodies are used for high performance applications where you don't need a transbrake to launch.
One question I do have, can you still use a lockup converter with this setup? You disconnect the trans computer harness and plug in the Box and manualy shift the trans. Typically this is all you need to put the 4L80E into your musclecar aside from driveline shortening and crossmember mods or fabrication. That being said, there are original parts that are removed and then reinstalled in the process of installing the replacement valve body, and these components could be the source of problems as well. These work well in heavy vehicles and some towing or 4×4 applications. To update the trans back to electronic control at a later date would require a new valvebody.
I can't imagine ramping up any faster on my L30 and the 5 speed. The kit is not that expensive, but it does require removing the valvebody and a permanent change. Bottom line-----the automatic transmission is a very complex mechanism, so you need to have a pretty good idea of what you are doing in such an undertaking. The late model type are built from 1997 to 2001 cores are known to be the best. We have established ourselves in the industry with our exclusive innovative 4L80E valve body designs whether we use our in house recalibration kit, or one of our transbrakes, you are getting what no other company in the industry has.
This spaces the gear ratios out a bit better. I currently have not found a work around to be able to use this feature. If the trans was new and modified for slightly higher line pressure, it could be really harsh. Check out the new aluminum valve bodies that offer better heat dissipation over cast iron. There are a lot of options in automatic transmission control. It shares many components and design features.
The manual valve body is used when a transbrake is not needed, such as tractor pull, monster truck, and other track applications. All you have to do is ground the proper solenoid s in the right order and you have a full manual box. This pushed us to look for a less expensive alternative. They have to be treating the overdrive like a Gear Vendors and applying it to each gear to get the added split. They include all new friction clutches, bands, steel plates, soft parts, filter, modulator if applicable , as well as hydraulic upgrades, bearings added at several thrust locations, and other modifications depending on power level. We just want to be sure you get the strongest option available at the best price the first time.
Example, my firebird setup is running a 4. When ordering a valve body from Hughes, please be as accurate with your application as possible to insure the best results. It does not include the converter cut and clean, or hard parts. This is for those guys who are running MegaSquirt, carb or something other than a factory computer for their engines. This service includes all new frictions, steels, bands, shift solenoids, rebuild labor, and dyno time. These include the tailhousing with new bushing, seal, o-ring, speedometer gears calibrated for your combo, and driven speedo housing.
If anyone is interested I can get you product. Transbrakes allow a full throttle start off the line and full fluid lockup when you push the button to release the transbrake. It monitors boost levels, and modifies the shifts and torque converter lockup based on it. Both designs will work in a stock depth pan. This would be great for Bonneville. First thing I noticed in the instructions is that it doesn't say anything about the lockup function.
